Cheerios!

Ava loves Cheerios.  

"These are good eats!" 

"Here Papa, you try one." 

"And another one." 

"I am glad you like them, too." 

"Now one for me." 

"More for papa."

Ava and Hummus

It turns out that Ava does not like hummus. After a very small taste, Ava's lip became more than a little swollen. So, Ava decided to visit the emergency room at Overlake Friday night. 

"I don't think this gown is my size. Do you have something a bit smaller and in purple?" 

We spent a couple of hours in the ER.  It turns out Ava is very allergic to something in hummus.   Thanks to some lovely Benadryl Ava slept through most of it. 

"ZZZZZzzzz" She was snoring. Mom and Papa were never so happy to hear little baby snores.

The next day Ava was up and walking.  Yes, walking. She took her first couple of steps Saturday night.

  Unfortunately, we were too busy cheering to take a picture, but look for some next week.

Update: After allergy testing we found out that hummus is probably the worst possible food for Ava.  She is allergic to both sesame and garbanzo beans.  However, she  is not allergic to peanuts (there is Kennedy in there somewhere after all). 

Ava and the Teeth

Ava has been a little sad this week.

"I have been cutting FOUR teeth.  See, four--at once. It is not easy."

                               But it is not all bad....

"If I just dance, sometimes I feel better." 

"And next time you see this smile, it just might be a toothy grin."

Just a taste

Ava has tried many new foods over the last three months.  She has learned how to communicate which she would prefer not to have again.

I wonder what she thinks of squash?

Ava has discovered that she likes praise. In fact, she would like us to applaud her every bite.

Ava and the Big Island

Ava took her first trip to Hawaii (hence the lack of posts).  She decided she needed to see the whole island in one day.

  The first stop was a black sand beach, Punalu'u. 

"I love sand between my toes." 

"And over my toes." 

"Papa, why do you still have your shoes on?"

 

"Goodbye lovely beach."

Next, we stopped by the volcano.  

Papa found a way to make certain Ava looked at the camera.

"I'm pretty sure I should keep my eye on that steaming lake of lava."

After a lovely lunch in Hilo, we went to Rainbow falls. 

"This is one tasty hat." 

One waterfall was not enough, so we also went to Akaka Falls.  

Getting there was a bit of a walk. 

"Notice that Papa's head is down. That is not because he was hauling my 19lbs, but because he had to check the football score." 

 

"We made it!"

"Grandma looks so pretty by the falls." 

On the way back to the car we saw bananas.

Finally, we stopped at Tex Drive In for malasadas. 

We were too busy eating to take a picture, so I borrowed this one from someone else.

After that we were ready to head back to Kona. 

We made it home in time to see the sunset.
